The importer or customs broker submits the shipment details through CARM, including the HS code, value and country of origin.

CBSA review
CBSA may release the shipment or select it for examination.

Duties and taxes
Applicable customs duty, GST and other charges are calculated.

Payment or RPP
Importers using Release Prior to Payment (RPP) must meet CARM financial-security requirements.

Release and delivery
Once CBSA releases the goods, they proceed to the final destination.
